Mohawk Council of Akwesasne

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is dedicated to the conservation and recovery of the Kiawerón:ko (American Eel) through collaboration with Indigenous communities and stakeholders, promoting sustainable practices and environmental stewardship for future generations.

Watkonnonweraton (Greetings), We are grateful to invite you to attend the upcoming Kiawer&oacute;n:ko (American Eel) Twakia&rsquo;tar&oacute;:roks (Gathering), a collaborative gathering of stakeholders and rightsholders committed to the conservation, protection, and long-term recovery of the Kiawer&oacute;n:ko. This event will bring together Indigenous representatives, government agencies, researchers, conservation authorities, industry, and community leaders to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships and establish meaningful commitments to action. The focus of this gathering will be to identify and advance coordinated immediate actions to address the most urgent conservation priorities and current threats; mid-term actions focused on strengthening management; and long-term actions to support the sustainable recovery of the &nbsp;Kiawer&oacute;n:ko.&nbsp;

Watkonnonweraton (Greetings), We are grateful to invite you to attend the upcoming Kiawer&oacute;n:ko (American Eel) Twakia&rsquo;tar&oacute;:roks (Gathering), a collaborative gathering of stakeholders and rightsholders committed to the conservation, protection, and long-term recovery of the Kiawer&oacute;n:ko. This event will bring together Indigenous representatives, government agencies, researchers, conservation authorities, industry, and community leaders to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships and establish meaningful commitments to action. On Monday August 10th, we have organized a special day for Indigenous Peoples and allies only to discuss our approach to caring and advocating for Kiawer&oacute;n:ko in the short and long term.&nbsp; On August 11th and 12th, the focus of this larger gathering will be to identify and advance coordinated immediate actions to address the most urgent conservation priorities and current threats; mid-term actions focused on strengthening management; and long-term actions to support the sustainable recovery of the &nbsp;Kiawer&oacute;n:ko.&nbsp;
