In this iteration, artists Abby Hunter, Sarah Rose Mercer, SAPIENS SAPIENS, and Ghamar Collective share experimental new works spanning dance, music and contemporary performance that activate the parking lot, respond to the structure of Boombox, and make space for unconventional audience experiences. About Boombox:Boombox is a 52’ shipping container converted into an artist-led performance space. It was founded in 2016 by dance artists Katie Lowen, Diego Romero, and Ileanna Cheladyn in response to a lack of affordable venue and rehearsal space in the city. From 2016 to 2020, Boombox was located at a trailer-truck parking lot on Great Northern Way. It quickly became a special hub for exciting experimental performances, hosting a wide range of dance, theatre, music, and visual artists who embraced its rough-around-the-edges, DIY spirit. From 2020 to 2023, Boombox took a hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions and eventually to the loss of its original location. In 2023, with Company 605's support, Here For Now Collective stepped up to take over operations and relocated Boombox to its new home in the parking lot at The Birdhouse, a queer arts and culture warehouse space at 44 West 4th Ave. Today, Boombox continues to provide a home for contemporary works by a wide array of artists and is beloved for bringing community together to experience intimate, one-of-a-kind artworks.
