🎉Excited for Durham&#39;s first ever &quot;Sawan Mela&mdash;meaning &ldquo;Monsoon Fair&rdquo;&mdash;is a cherished traditional Indian community event, typically held during the month of &quot;Shrawan&quot; (Sawan) in the Hindu calendar. This sacred time covering the months of July and August, coincides with the monsoon season and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In North India, Sawan is considered an especially auspicious time, marked by devotion, festivity, and vibrant cultural expression. The mela (fair/carnival) is a joyful celebration of the season, bringing people together through music, dance, food, and a strong sense of community. It&rsquo;s a beautiful way for Indian and South Asian families (those who have Indian roots)&mdash;to stay connected to their cultural roots and traditions.
