In this introductory lecture, Dr Shoaib Ahmed Malik will explore the foundations of the Islam and Science discourse, examining key historical developments, contemporary debates, and the challenges facing Muslims in an age shaped by scientific authority. About the SpeakerDr Shoaib Ahmed Malik is a Lecturer in Science and Religion at the University of Edinburgh. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham and a second PhD in Theology from St Mary&#39;s University, Twickenham, placing him at the intersection of the natural sciences and religious studies.His research focuses on the relationship between Islam and modern science, particularly evolutionary theory, theology, and the philosophy of science. His acclaimed monograph, Islam and Evolution: Al-Ghazālī and the Modern Evolutionary Paradigm, received the 2022 Expanded Reason Award from the International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR), recognising it as a leading contribution to the field.Dr Malik is also actively involved in developing the emerging academic discipline of Islam and Science, helping to build the intellectual foundations and institutional infrastructure for future scholarship in this area.
