Across the Americas, millions of families in impoverished and historically excluded communities live with chronic energy insecurity. From rural villages to urban neighborhoods, households face unaffordable electricity costs, unreliable grids, and a deepening dependence on fossil fuels they cannot afford. These conditions limit economic mobility, disrupt education, endanger health, and make it nearly impossible for families to build stable, dignified lives. By expanding access to solar energy, we help communities reclaim control over their energy future and build a more resilient, sustainable foundation for generations to come. We use your donations to intercept high‑quality, used solar panels before they enter the waste stream and refurbish them for a second life. These panels are then donated to low‑income families and community institutions, providing clean, reliable, and cost‑free power. In doing so, we reduce household energy burdens, strengthen local resilience, and prevent perfectly functional equipment from ending up in landfills&mdash;advancing both environmental sustainability and energy justice across the renewable sector. The Kind Sun Initiative is a New York-based 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that recovers decommissioned solar panels and redeploys them to power schools, cultural institutions, and communities facing energy insecurity.
