In a new chapter for Underdog Bookstore, we say goodbye to Thomas, Nathan, and the pugs and welcome a nonprofit future to save our inclusive space in Old Town Monrovia. 

At Underdog, our mission is to amplify underrepresented voices and provide enriching events where our community can unite to explore, connect, and celebrate the power of literacy and learning. As underdogs ourselves, your new team of Board Members are excited to begin this journey and look forward to sharing our own stories and passions as we work together to protect this valuable space. 

We believe literature can unlock dialogue, understanding, and empathy, and every individual deserves a welcoming and inclusive space to feel valued and represented. In addition to offering a curated selection of books, we proudly feature gifts crafted by local vendors, supporting the creative spirit of our community.

Through our events and programs, we are committed to providing access to books for those of all ages and backgrounds, whether you are an existing book lover, a new reader, or an early learner. We prioritize serving marginalized and underserved groups, including those who are at-risk, in foster care, disabled, neurodivergent, or living with mental illness - all who can find value in not just the gift of a new book but one that speaks to a part of their identity. 

By championing diversity and inclusivity in all our work, we aspire to build a stronger, more connected community of underdogs, and your generosity will help us to make that work possible.

• Book gifting programs (in-store & pop-ups) 

• Free/low-cost tutoring services 

• Story-time, book readings, and author panels
