I am going to school full time for a masters in school counseling. The structure fire has added lots of stress. I have 4 children under 6 and all of which have trauma from the fire on Sept. 15. We were lucky enough to have gotten out, but the trauma that comes with recovery is awful. We woke up slightly before 7:00 am.  My boys were running downstairs to tell me there was fire in their bedrooms. I have two dogs and my bigger one ran upstairs ahead of me.  I luckily had my two littlest girls downstairs with me. I sprinted up the stairs with the girls yelling for my oldest daughter.  She had my smaller dog in her arms and was telling me she had the boys and went out the front door.  I took my youngest girls out the back door.  Smoke had already filled the house and was making it hard to see.  I lost my bigger dog in the commotion.  I left the back door open for him in hopes he would get out.  I had a feeling he was looking for everyone (he is a border collie lab mix and he is my kid's protector for sure).  We walked one block where we were able to get in the church I go to.  Neighbors helped my children as I stood on the corner and watched my house burn and the firefighters put it out.  What felt like an eternity, but only 25 minutes they had my bigger dog cornered in the back and I was allowed to go and get him.   Within the process of remodeling the city failed to turn off my water after multiple phone calls, which caused a pipe to burst.  This wrecked my foundation and I had to take out a second insurance claim and I had to fix my foundation. Whatever I was hoping to salvage in the basement, I was no longer able to.  I had replaced a water heater 4 months prior, I got a new washer and dryer two weeks before the fire, I had redone my kitchen 1.5 years ago, got a new refrigerator 5 months prior.  What I thought I could try and keep, I no longer could after the pipe bursting. Now I am founding out how much it hurts to replace things a second time within a short about of time. We have been able to continue the adoption process for my 4 youngest children (my oldest is my biological one). We are currently in an apartment that has carpet in every room of the house. This is causing sickness due to my children's allergies. I am looking to offset the cost with some areas so that I can put money in other projects to finish my house, so we can find some sort of normal life again. I was looking over the pictures and I still cannot believe how triggered I am by the smell of fire and the sight of the photos.
