A black silhouette of the Charleston skyline stands above a vibrant rainbow brushstroke with "Charleston Black Pride" written in white text.

Seven years ago, Charleston Black Pride was my answer to a gap I couldn't ignore. Today, it's a board, a Royal Court, a full calendar of programming, and a community that knows exactly where to find each other. In the next seven years we'll be leaning into our mission to be at more tables, lifting the voices of queer people of color and being involved in all parts of our community. Charleston Black Pride was never meant to be an alternative festival. It was necessary to create a space where LGBTQ+ people of color could be seen, valued, affirmed, and celebrated. For far too long, our stories, our voices, and our experiences have been overlooked. We exist to educate, inspire, improve, and celebrate the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people of color. We build safe spaces, create visibility, and ensure our community no longer stands in the shadows. We celebrate the progress that's been made. We also don't look away from what's still in front of us. LGBTQ+ people of color continue to face discrimination, violence, housing insecurity, healthcare disparities, and barriers to mental health support. Real change happens when local voices come together to build collective power — and that's the work Charleston Black Pride was built to do.
