It brings to life the haunting poems carved into the walls of Angel Island Immigration Station between 1910 and 1942. The <a href="https://oaklandballet.org/performances-events/angel_island_project/" target="_blank">Angel Island Project</a> speaks to the universal human experience—the shared dreams of a better life and the hopes for a brighter future to which we all aspire.World-renowned composer Huang Ruo’s 80-minute oratorio is scored for a string quartet, 16 singers plus a narrator, and is now transformed into a dance work, featuring 12 Oakland Ballet Company members and created by 7 Asian American Pacific Islander choreographers. Another part of this venture is to engage a documentary film crew to record the project performance and thereby give it a very long and viable future.
