My father made the drive.&nbsp;Three hours round trip from Kaʻū to Hilo or Kona, three days a week, because the southernmost district in the United States has one two-lane highway and not one dialysis chair.&nbsp; Dozens of our kūpuna (elders) are forced to make this drive, many unable to drive themselves. This is what rural America lives with when healthcare is always somewhere else.&nbsp; Before my father passed, I promised him no family in our rural community at the southern end of Hawaiʻi Island would go without care. This drive is about placing one dialysis chair in our own hometown, and then the next one. Every dollar you give puts life saving treatment within reach of our kūpuna and brings my father&#39;s promise closer to being kept. Mahalo!
