After 100 years of continuous operations, the Allegheny Elks are embarking on renovations and updates to our historic Lodge building! &nbsp; Designed in 1925 by the noted Pittsburgh architect Edward B. Lee, our Lodge building is a cornerstone of the National Register-listed Deutschtown Historic District. Following a devastating fire in 1924, Lee redesigned the Lodge in his signature &quot;free classicism&quot; style, creating a fireproof sanctuary for fraternity and fellowship that was completed in 1926 (100 years ago!). &nbsp;&nbsp; Today, this building remains a highly visible anchor facing the Allegheny Commons. We completed a Master Plan in 2024 for renovations and updates to the entire 26,000 sq ft building. &nbsp;In 2026, we will begin with our &quot;Porch Project&quot; restoration focuses on the exterior masonry, entryway, and historic finishes, ensuring that this architectural gem continues to grace the North Side for the next century. &nbsp;&nbsp; Key project elements of the Porch Project include: RESTORATION AND PRESERVATION:&nbsp;Returning the main entry doors to their original historic grandeur; Cleaning and repairing the 100 year old masonry and brick and steps, and restoring the light fixtures FIRST FLOOR ACCESSIBILITY:&nbsp; Fixing the porch slab and replacing the tiles, removing the step from the porch floor to the doorway, adding a chair lift and new sidewalk ramp to become first-floor ADA compliant! The Porch Project represents a $300,000 investment in our neighborhood.&nbsp;So far we have been honored to received a PHMC Keystone Construction Grant in the amount of $100,000 and an Allegheny County GEDTF Grant in the amount of $100,000. While our grants provide a critical foundation, your support is essential to complete this vision and help us raise the final $50,000.&nbsp; The Lodge: Fellowship in the Heart of the North SideThe Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was founded in 1868 to promote the cardinal virtues of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity. Allegheny Lodge #339, instituted in 1896 when the area was still Allegheny City, has carried this mission for over 125 years. &nbsp;&nbsp; Our Lodge is one of the fastest-growing in the state. Our building serves as more than just a club; it is a vital community hub that hosts weekly musical entertainment and diverse public and charitable events.
