The Wandering Daisies are six girls beginning an entirely new chapter together at Journey with Equus.Mama Rio Angelita and her five daughters—Daisy Mae, Tansy, Shasta, Zinnia and Bellis—came to us as a family, and together is exactly how we intend to keep them. Most have had very little handling, so right now they are intentionally living in a smaller space where we can spend time with them, begin gentling them and, most importantly, allow them to learn at their own pace that people can be safe. As their confidence grows and we are able to safely touch and handle them, the girls will graduate into a much larger space that we are working to build specifically for them. We need additional panels and fencing, a safe shelter for Colorado winters, hay and feed, farrier care and the ongoing resources it takes to care for six donkeys. But that's only the beginning of what we hope their story will become. Our long-term goal is for these girls, when and if they show us they are ready, to become part of our equine-partnered wellness work with at-risk teens. There is something incredibly powerful about that possibility: six donkeys who are learning to trust humans potentially standing beside young people who may be learning to trust again, too. Every gift through this campaign is designated to The Wandering Daisies and their direct needs. Whether it's $5, $25, $185 toward a big bale of hay, panels for their new space or a larger gift toward their shelter, it all helps us build what comes next. There is no finish line here. Our fundraising goal represents our first milestone, because caring for these girls and supporting their journey will continue long after their new space is built. Help us give six little donkeys the opportunity to discover what's possible—and someday, perhaps, help a young person discover the same thing. 🌼
