❤️ Help Us Build What We Didn’t HaveLaunch the Inaugural Season of Lakayro Youth Dance Company“Building a home where culture, confidence, and community come together through dance.” Every Child Deserves a Place to Belong. This September, Lakayro will officially launch its inaugural Youth Dance Company in Newark, New Jersey. For many young people, this won’t just be dance class. It will become a place where they discover confidence, discipline, leadership, and pride in their culture. We’ve secured a home at Smiling David Dance Studio, where our dancers will train twice each week in Haitian and Afro-Diasporic dance traditions. Now we need your help to make this dream sustainable. Your support will help us secure our studio space, provide scholarships, purchase supplies, and create a safe environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive. Help Us Build What We Didn’t Have.Lakayro was born from lived experience.I didn’t grow up with unlimited access to elite dance training. I grew up with passion. With rhythm. With culture. With a deep love for movement—but not always the resources, exposure, or structured opportunities that so many dancers take for granted. And I know I’m not alone... I started Lakayro because I understand what it feels like to have talent but limited access. To crave discipline, mentorship, and technical training but not see yourself reflected in those spaces. To age out of programs and feel like your journey ended before it really began. Lakayro exists to change that story. We’re creating safe, structured, culturally rooted dance spaces where young people—and adults—can grow, belong, and thrive. This isn’t recreational babysitting. This isn’t trend-based choreography. This is foundation. This is discipline. This is excellence. This is identity. This is culture. Why Lakayro MattersFar too many young people never receive access to quality dance education. Many families simply cannot afford expensive studios. Others never see their culture represented in dance spaces. Many adults believe it’s “too late” to start dancing because no one ever created space for them. Lakayro is changing that. Our mission is to preserve Haitian culture while celebrating the richness of the African diaspora through dance, education, and community. We believe dance should be accessible—not exclusive. A Message from Our FounderWhen I imagined Lakayro, I wasn’t thinking about creating another dance class.I was thinking about creating the space I wish existed when I was growing up.A place where culture wasn’t an afterthought.A place where excellence and accessibility could exist together.A place where no child would feel like they didn’t belong because of finances, background, or lack of opportunity.Every donation moves us one step closer to making that vision a reality. You’re not simply helping us rent a studio. You’re helping us build what so many of us never had.A place to belong.A place to grow.A place to become.Thank you for believing in Lakayro and in the young people whose lives this organization will touch.
