Ty&rsquo;Onna is a rising Junior Health Management Major fromDayton, OH attending Howard University. During my time at Howard, I have engaged in various organizations, service projects, and professional endeavors Most notably, serving as a SiteCoordinator for Howard University Alternative Spring Break, Cleveland, Ohio Site. During this time, I spent eight months researching, planning, and executing a week-long no cost to studentservice project where I led 50 students to travel to Cleveland, Ohio to work alongside community organizations focusing on the initiative of Community Health and YouthEmpowerment. The biggest outcome of this project was educating students on why health equity and affordable health resources are so important and allowing students to mentor middle/high school-aged kids to get them excited about college, particularly HBCU&rsquo;s. I also had the honor of serving within the Howard University Student Association (HUSA) working onvarious projects including period poverty awareness, short videos teaching students how to create meals in an affordable and healthy manner, gathering photos of students during HowardUniversity&rsquo;s 100th homecoming as a university keepsake, and many more. This work engages200+ students each time to increase student morale and resources. After graduation, I intend to pursue a career within the health insurance field to gain an understanding for how insurance companies operate. Within 5 years of graduating, I will pursue a Masters of Public Health with a concentration in health equity to gain the education and skills to become an advocate for equitable resources within healthcare as I truly believe one of the biggest detriments for preventative care is the lack of insurance, high deductibles, and lack of community resources across the U.S. With a heart for service and a mind for strategy, I have committed my life to learning more, and serving more at Howard University, and the world beyond. I intend to give the fruit of this degree back to everyone who helped me earn it, and that includes you.
