Commemorative Air Force

The Commemorative Air Force preserves and showcases vintage military aircraft, offering educational experiences and community events to honor aviation history and support the restoration of historic planes for future generations.

Join us for an unforgettable evening inside an active historic aircraft hangar! The Commemorative Air Force High Sierra Squadron is opening up our hangar to host our second Hangar Swing Dance. Whether you're an experienced dancer or have never tried swing before, 85 years old or 15 years old, everyone is welcome. The evening begins with a beginner-friendly Lindy Hop lesson taught by Tiffany Alm from Yaples Ballroom, followed by social dancing. Enjoy food trucks, drinks, raffle prizes, aircraft displays, and the unique atmosphere of the Reno-Stead Airport. This dance is our evening celebration of the Reno-Stead Community Airport Day, making it the perfect way to cap off a fun day at the airport. To make the night even more memorable, you can add a flight experience in our beautifully maintained 1957 L-19 Birddog, a historic military observation aircraft that served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After your purchase, one of our pilots will reach out to you directly to schedule your flight. You can also email us with questions at cafhighsierrasquadron@gmail.com. Come dressed up in a Vietnam War Era costume and get 1 free raffle ticket. All proceeds support the Commemorative Air Force High Sierra Squadron's mission of preserving historic aircraft while inspiring future generations through youth aviation education, mechanic training, community events, and veteran outreach. Please arrive plenty early to navigate the airport. We recommend arriving at 5:30 for the dance lesson. Parking is free, and we will have volunteers directing parking. We are excited to have you there with us!

Here in Northern Nevada, the High Sierra Squadron works to keep aviation history alive and accessible by giving the public opportunities to see, hear, learn about, and even fly in these remarkable aircraft. Your sponsorship support helps us host a welcoming community event, bring aviation education to the public, preserve and operate historic aircraft, and create meaningful connections between generations. It also gives your business a unique opportunity to support veterans, aviation education, historic preservation, and the Northern Nevada community. You will be helping us create these experiences: a child seeing an aircraft up close for the first time, a veteran sharing a story with a younger generation, a passenger experiencing history from the cockpit of a real warbird, and a community gathering together in an active aircraft hangar for an evening of music and dancing. We invite your business to become part of this special day and help the High Sierra Squadron continue its mission to Educate, Honor, Inspire, and Preserve.
