Commemorative Air Force

The Commemorative Air Force preserves and showcases vintage military aircraft, offering educational experiences and community events to honor aviation history and support the restoration of historic planes for future generations.

Help us return our N3N to the sky by joining us for a Paint and Sip fundraiser evening in the hangar. Our classic Navy trainer carried generations of pilots; now it needs you to capture its beauty on a canvas, and in doing so, raise the funds needed to buy it a new engine. Local artist and HSS Development Officer Blair Latos will teach you how to paint the iconic &ldquo;Yellow Peril&rdquo; biplane step-by-step while you enjoy snacks and refreshments in the setting of our active aircraft hangar. Whether you&rsquo;re experienced or have never picked up a brush, we&#39;ll make sure you have a great time and leave with a painting you&#39;ll love. All ages are welcome. Paint the N3N to Save the N3N

Step back in time and join us for a 1940s-themed community swing dance held inside an active aircraft hangar at Stead Airport in Reno. This joyful evening brings together live swing dancing, aviation history, and community connection in support of a meaningful cause. All ticket sales, donations, and raffle proceeds help fund the restoration of the Commemorative Air Force High Sierra Squadron&rsquo;s vintage N3N aircraft engine so we can continue offering historic flight experiences to the public. The night begins with a free beginner Lindy Hop lesson from 6&ndash;7 PM, followed by open social dancing from 7 PM onward. No dance experience or partner is needed. All ages are welcome. Guests can enjoy food and drinks, raffle prizes, and a static vintage aircraft display, with the possibility of a fly-by if conditions allow. 1940s attire is encouraged but not required, so come dressed to the nines or just as you are. Whether you&rsquo;re a dancer, aviation enthusiast, history lover, or simply looking for a unique and fun community event, this is a night to remember. Come dance and help keep history flying.

Commemorative Air Force High Sierra Squadron Ride Program

Join us for an unforgettable evening inside an active historic aircraft hangar! The Commemorative Air Force High Sierra Squadron is opening up our hangar to host our second Hangar Swing Dance. Whether you&#39;re an experienced dancer or have never tried swing before, 85 years old or 15 years old, everyone is welcome. The evening begins with a beginner-friendly Lindy Hop lesson taught by Tiffany Alm from Yaples Ballroom, followed by social dancing. Enjoy food trucks, drinks, raffle prizes, aircraft displays, and the unique atmosphere of the Reno-Stead Airport. This dance is our evening celebration of the Reno-Stead Community Airport Day, making it the perfect way to cap off a fun day at the airport. To make the night even more memorable, you can add a flight experience in our beautifully maintained 1957 L-19 Birddog, a historic military observation aircraft that served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After your purchase, one of our pilots will reach out to you directly to schedule your flight. Please arrive plenty early to navigate the airport. We recommend arriving at 5:30 for the dance lesson. Parking is free, and we will have volunteers directing parking. Reno-Stead Community Airport Day Hangar Swing Dance

Join the Commemorative Air Force High Sierra Squadron in bringing aviation history to life at our Stead Airport Community Day and Vietnam War Era Hangar Swing Dance. This full-day community celebration will bring together historic aircraft, aviation organizations, veterans, first responders, military representatives, local businesses, families, and aviation enthusiasts for an unforgettable day at Reno-Stead Airport.The afternoon Airport Community Day will feature historic aircraft and static displays, aircraft rides, a fly-in, CAF open house, community organizations, vendors, food trucks, live music, military and first responder displays, family activities, and more. As the sun goes down, the celebration will continue inside the hangar with a beginner swing dance lesson followed by an evening social dance inspired by the music and spirit of the Vietnam War era to honor our living and passed veterans. The Commemorative Air Force is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, inspiring, and honoring through the preservation and flight of historic military aircraft. Here in Northern Nevada, the High Sierra Squadron works to keep aviation history alive and accessible by giving the public opportunities to see, hear, learn about, and even fly in these remarkable aircraft.
