Central Arkansas: Happy Hour at The Rail Yard (September)

Slow Building School workshop series is a space for participants to learn how to operate basic power and hand tools while honoring their bodies, the materials, and the home-lands they are building with and for. This workshop series prioritizes BIPOC participants who want to learn building skills to support their communities and shared spaces.&nbsp; The series will take place on September 5 and 6 from 11am to 4pm. On the first day, participants will go through a safety and tool demonstration and practice their skills by building altars they can take home. On the second day, participants will build outdoor benches for UC Gill Tract Community Farm. Attendance on both days is required. This workshop is for BIPOC participants or people who want to learn building skills to build for their communities.&nbsp; The mission of Slow Building is to create opportunities where people can practice being part of their environments and home-lands as creative, skilled, embodied, and transformative beings. Slow building engages with spiritual practices, integral nonviolence, restorative justice both physically through construction, and through community building.

Max dimensions of this bench are 42&rdquo; wide x 15&rdquo; deep x 21&rdquo; tall with the seat 17&rdquo; from the floor. &nbsp;Participants will be able to customize their bench dimensions to fit their space. &nbsp;You will also learn finishing techniques to personalize and enhance the look of your bench. &nbsp;Take home a handmade piece of furniture.

Build a real set for a real stage. Dykes with Drills and Bard Theatre are teaming up for a hands-on workshop where you&#39;ll join a small crew to build the set for Bard&#39;s production of Oscar Wilde&#39;s The Importance of Being Earnest. You&#39;ll learn to build and assemble theatrical set pieces, use power tools the way a working scene shop does, and watch your work go on stage in front of an audience. Bard moves Wilde&#39;s Victorian comedy to Thatcher-era England in the 1980s, drawing on androgynous glam rock, the New Romantics, and the queer and artistic subcultures of the time. Gender rebels, queer love, and plenty of shenanigans take over the historic Victoria Theatre in San Francisco this December. Requirements: Participants must have completed Introduction to Tools or be comfortable safely using miter saws, circular saws, jigsaws, impact drivers, and drills.
