Pet Tails Rescue

Pet Tails Rescue is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned and injured pets, providing them with medical care and loving foster homes until they find forever families. Their mission is to give every animal a chance at a happy life.

The vet said is was behavioral. &nbsp;Hazel was treated with&nbsp;anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication. The records stated &ldquo;Behavorial&rdquo;&hellip;r/o Medical. &nbsp;And yet no records indicated any procedures to rule out medical. 5 year old HAZEl was adopted out when she was just 14 weeks old. &nbsp;Starting about 3 years ago Hazel started hiding, withdrawing from her family, and missing her litter box. &nbsp;She no longer was the sweet engaging happy girl that she once was but was now exhibiting fearful and isolating behaviors. The family was diligent with their veterinarian. &nbsp;They brought her in to their vet every 6 months (and sometimes more frequently) questioning over and over again if this was a medical issue. &nbsp;The vet prescribed anti-depressants and anti stress medications and HAZEL&rsquo;S (withdrawing from life) behaviors just continued. &nbsp;For three years this family trusted their veterinarian&rsquo;s treatment for a diagnosis of behavioral issues. When things progressed and no options were provided the adopters returned Hazel to Pet Tails Rescue believing that the environmental make up of their home was the cause of Hazels behavior. &nbsp;They returned her out of love because they were out of options for her happiness. &nbsp;And they were beyond distraught with this heart-wretching decision. When Hazel arrived at Pet Tails Rescue she hid under a chair for 10 days. She had a nice comfy room all to herself. &nbsp;Volunteers would just sit for hours reading to her and gently encouraging her with love. &nbsp;She was barely eating no matter what we offered. And then we noticed she was frequenting the litter box and straining. &nbsp;Drops of urine.. &nbsp;and hardly any fecal noted in her charts. HAZEL&rsquo;S pending adoption was the next day. &nbsp;But this was serious and we rushed her to a local ER Clinic where X-rays, ultrasound and blood tests were performed. Hazel was severely impacted (probably due to stress) but of most concern was a significant bladder stone that the ER vet stated had been growing for at least 3 years. &nbsp;She had been suffering in indescribable pain for 3 years. &nbsp;This is solely due to an inaccurate diagnosis by their veterinarian. &nbsp;We had the records. &nbsp;No where in the records could I find ANY testing to address a medical reason for her behavior. &nbsp;No X-rays, no ultrasound and no blood testing. &nbsp;Just medications to address &ldquo;Behavioral&rdquo; issues.THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. The only option for Ms. HAZEL is surgery now to remove the bladder stone. &nbsp;We scheduled it right away with our personal (and highly respected) veterinarian for this Tuesday. &nbsp;The saddest part of this is that if it was diagnosed 3 years ago the surgery would not need to happen. &nbsp;HAZEL&rsquo;S BLADDER STONE COULD HAVE BEEN TREATED with a dissolution diet if urinary cat food that would have dissolved a smaller stone. Nevertheless here we are. We will resolve this pain she has been enduring for years. &nbsp;Her new family is anxiously awaiting her arrival and looking forward to a long, happy, pain free life.
