Shawnee Seed Sanctuary restores Indigenous agricultural heritage by rematriating historic seeds to their ancestral lands. They cultivate relationships among communities, fostering cultural exchange and stewardship of traditional crops for future generations.

More than 200 years ago,&nbsp;Prophetstown was a place where Native people from many nations came together&mdash;building relationships, exchanging knowledge, growing food, and imagining a shared future. Today, the&nbsp;Shawnee Seed Sanctuary is returning historic Prophetstown corn to the land where it was grown more than two centuries ago. But we hope to return more than seeds.We are bringing representatives of descendant tribal nations and Indigenous communities together at Prophetstown to renew relationships&mdash;with one another, with the land, and with the living cultural heritage of this extraordinary place. Help us make the journey possible. Many of the people we hope to bring to Prophetstown will travel hundreds&mdash;or more than a thousand&mdash;miles to participate. What sponsorship means: Your gift helps remove financial barriers, feed and care for honored guests, support the people carrying the program, and deliver a safe and accountable festival for Indiana communities and the Tribes of Prophetstown.&nbsp; One campaign. Six fundable lanes.&nbsp;The $25,000 goal can be sponsored whole or assembled in meaningful parts. Travel and lodging quotes or estimates are the main anchor. The remaining five lanes are working allocations. - Travel and lodging: $18,000. About 42 rooms for two nights; distance-based vehicle assistance; flexibility for attendance and room configurations.- Meals and hospitality: $2,400. Guest meals, water, hospitality, and event-specific food-service consumables.- Honoraria and program support: $1,500.&nbsp;Respectful support for invited knowledge holders,educators, cooks, growers, and program contributors.- Site, safety, and sanitation: $1,250. Site and permit needs, sanitation, fire and food safety supplies, waste handling, and event operations.- Accessibility and local transportation: $1,000. Local rides, mobility and access needs, and practical barriers not covered by long-distance travel assistance.- Communications and learning materials: $850. Historical records describe Native people from numerous nations and communities at or connected with Prophetstown, including Shawnee, Potawatomi, Kickapoo, Lenape, Ho-Chunk, Wea, Wyandot, Odawa, Ojibwe, Menominee, Meskwaki, Sauk, Miami, and others. The Shawnee Seed Sanctuary&#39;s work at Prophetstown began with the return of historic Prophetstown corn&mdash;seeds connected to this place for more than two centuries.Returning those seeds is an act of regeneration and cultural rematriation. But seeds also carry relationships.A seed can be carried home.Knowledge can be shared.An elder can meet a young grower.Communities separated by geography and generations can sit together again.
