At the Douglass Ridley School, we are creating a progressive, Reggio Emilia–inspired elementary school where learning is hands-on, student-driven, and connected to the world around us. Guided by the legacies of Frederick Douglass and Florida Ruffin Ridley, our mission is to ensure that every child has access to this kind of transformative education—regardless of their family’s income. Our tiered tuition model is designed so that tuition is never a barrier, building an intentionally diverse community where children learn with and from one another. The Tuition Equity Fund makes this vision possible. Contributions to the fund directly support families who could not otherwise afford full tuition, ensuring that all children—across income levels, backgrounds, and neighborhoods—have the opportunity to thrive in our classrooms. By giving, you are helping us build a school community that truly reflects Boston and lives up to our mission of equity and excellence in education.

This fall, The Douglass Ridley School opened in Boston's Longwood neighborhood with our first class of kindergartners. They spend their days outside, asking questions, and building their way to answers. We're raising $20,000 in 20 days, from November 12 to December 1, to carry the school through the winter. Our board is matching gifts up to $6,000, so every dollar goes twice as far. Our kids are pitching in too. They're walking 200,000 steps to the Muddy River and around the neighborhood, and you can sponsor one of their walks on the River Walk page. Thank you for helping us build this school.

20 Days for $20,000

From November 12 to December 1, the kindergartners at The Douglass Ridley School are walking 200,000 steps. They're heading to the Muddy River, along the path, and all around the neighborhood, paying attention to what they find: birds, bridges, leaves changing, the people they pass. What they notice comes back to the classroom and becomes part of their work. Every $50 sponsors one walk to the river and back, about 2,000 kid steps. Our goal is $5,000, and every dollar counts toward our 20 Days for $20,000 campaign. Pick a walker below to cheer on, or give to the whole group. Thank you for walking with us!

February Break Camp offers a calm, creative week for children at The Douglass Ridley School. Inspired by Reggio principles, campers explore projects built around their questions, observations, and ideas. 🎨 Small groups, open-ended materials, and steady routines help children stay curious and grounded during the school break. Our educators listen closely, document learning, and support each child’s independence and sense of community. 🌱
