Women Against Abusive Relationships

Women Against Abusive Relationships (WAAR) empowers women and girls by breaking the cycle of violence through education, awareness, and healing programs. We provide resources to identify abusive behaviors and foster healthy relationships for lasting change.

Empowering Women: A Holistic Approach to Healing and Growth is a three-hour self-love workshop created especially for survivors of domestic violence. Hosted by Women Against Abusive Relationships (WAAR), this empowering experience offers a safe, supportive space to reconnect with yourself, build confidence, and find strength in community. Participants will engage in a guided peer discussion led by University of Pittsburgh Social Work Master&#39;s Student and WAAR intern, Francesca Grignon, focused on self-love and healing after abuse, develop practical coping skills, and connect with others on similar journeys. The workshop also features an interactive self-compassion presentation led by licensed social worker Ta&rsquo;lor Pinkston (The Heart Advocate), exploring how our upbringing shapes self-worth and how to cultivate compassion for ourselves. The experience concludes with an energizing drum cardio fitness class by Thick But Fit Crew, designed to uplift, motivate, and celebrate body confidence through movement. Join us on Saturday, June 13th, 11:00 AM&ndash;2:00 PM at YWCA Greater Pittsburgh in Homewood for a restorative and inspiring afternoon centered on healing, growth, and self-love. In 2004 WAAR partnered with UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, where the Healing Space was born. WAAR was on hiatus from 2016 to 2021 while the CEO/Founder, Roxanne Elizabeth Epperson, completed her educational journey in 2019. Her goal was to resume programming upon her retirement in November 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she re-established WAAR in the spring of 2021 with a strictly online format.
