This is a Hybrid Zoom Meeting
The in-person meeting takes place at
Digipen Institute of Technology
Redmond, WA
Rescheduled to Tuesday December 3, 2024
7:30pm PST (UTC -8)
(Scroll way down to see what time it will be where you are)
Click here to see our December 11 meeting about the sound of recording on tape vs. using tape emulation on digital files.
jj's Dec. 3 Meeting: Unlike a room made for stereo mixing, or for listening, wherein Live-End-Dead-End (LEDE) is often touted as the solution to provide some sense of space, a mixing space or listening space for immersive mixing should provide few contributions to the sound arriving at the listener, and the sound reaching the listener should be under complete control of the (minimum of 7) speakers in the plane, optionally plus height, proscenium top, or other speakers included as part of a particular listening setup.
Unlike listening rooms vs. production spaces, an immersive listening room should resemble the mixing room, in that the listening room itself should offer as little contribution as possible.
This presentation describes how to design and build such a space, without completely breaking and composting your bank account.
For existing spaces, some modifications can be suggested that will make your setup better able to overlay the local space with the desired space.
For new spaces, more specific suggestions point to inner and outer wall construction and location.
For all of these spaces, the author suggests using full-range speakers, and leaving the LFE to effects, as originally intended.
A separate discussion on LFE vs. Subwoofer is also planned.
To Attend
You can participate in this meeting via Zoom as well as in-person. You'll receive the Zoom Link two days before the meeting.
“Doors" for both Zoom and Digipen open at 7:00pm PST.
We hope to see you there!
