Using local architecture and everyday surroundings, students will develop core skills in perception, proportion, and mark-making while drawing from the natural world.Class 1: Learning to See (Observation &amp; Awareness)&nbsp; &nbsp; Focus: Composition of the structure, slowing down and breaking visual assumptions. &nbsp;Drawing the spaces around the building (e.g., between rooflines, wall outlines, branches) accurately see the negative shapes. &nbsp;Review of the class drawings and discussion on areas of focus.Class 2: Seeing Structure (Proportion &amp; Relationships)&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Focus: Measuring and simplifying what you see; the use of the &ldquo;Sighting technique&rdquo; to measure height, width and ratios. &nbsp;Compare angles and alignments of the building -vs- natural objects (trees, landscaping, etc.). &nbsp;Review of the class drawings and discussion on areas of focus.Class 3: Seeing Light &amp; Expression (Value &amp; Interpretation)&nbsp; &nbsp; Focus: Light, shadow, and personal mark-making; introduce the use of light &amp; shadow mapping to establish a range of values. &nbsp;Seeing leads to understanding&mdash;but expression makes it yours&hellip;mark making and cross-hatching to achieve a personal interpretation of the structure. &nbsp;Review of the class drawings and discussion on areas of focus. All are welcome as we learn, draw, and build our local arts community together.
