What better place than the “Live Music Capital of the World” to celebrate the largest Francophile music fest? To acknowledge the summer solstice on June 21st Fête de la Musique is an annual event aimed at all ages and tastes, the chance to experience, share and discover new and exciting music. The gatherings take place throughout France; in streets, parks and courtyards, the most ordinary of spaces transformed into an impromptu music hall. This celebration has become one of the hallmarks of contemporary French culture and marks the definitive arrival of summer. Jack Lang, Minister of Culture, is responsible for creating the music festival in 1982. The music festival has since become an international success and is celebrated in 340 cities around the world in countries including Australia, Chile, Japan and the United States. Our partnership continues to develop relationships and exchanges with musicians, chefs, directors and businesses. In addition to the creative exchanges, this relationship has fostered the development of Levitation France, Austin Psych Fest’s first European festival, and the formation of the French American Business Council of Austin. In September 2015 a mayoral delegation as well as a team of Texas musicians, chefs and entrepreneurs traveled to Angers to celebrate the 2nd Annual “Austin Week”, this event marked the beginning of our annual exchange and this November, we will welcome the Angers delegation for the “Angers Days” to showcase French artists, entrepreneurs, and sports teams to the Austin community.For the second year, a young ambassador of Austin lives in Angers, and we are in the process of welcoming the first Angers ambassador in Austin.
