Thank you!*** Bats are among the most effective natural pest controllers on the planet &mdash; a single bat can eat thousands of mosquitoes and insects in a single night &mdash; but populations across the Mid-Atlantic have declined sharply due to habitat loss and white-nose syndrome. A well-placed bat box can provide critical roosting habitat right in your backyard while keeping your garden naturally pest-free. In this hands-on workshop, you&#39;ll build and take home a bat box designed for species native to Zone 7a, learning where and how to mount it for the best chance of attracting a colony, what to expect through the seasons, and how your efforts connect to broader pollinator and pest-management conservation. All materials provided. No woodworking experience needed. Thanks to a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, we&#39;re able to offer this workshop at a reduced rate of $5, waivable upon request.&nbsp; This event takes place at Edgewood Community Farm &mdash; just head up the red stairs to the left of the yellow house at 2304 2nd St. NE. If this is an indoor event or if we need a rain backup, the event will be held inside the yellow house. For paid events, registration fees for no-shows will be treated as donations to the farm.
