My mother, who was from Kerala and married in the North, blended both worlds in her cooking—mixing southern flavors with northern spices to create her own beautiful recipes. She never wrote anything down-- everything came from her hands and heart.  The aroma of pudina and the tang of lemon rice filled our home with love and comfort. My daughter, just like I did, grew up watching Amama cook and learned by seeing, not by measuring. Lemon rice is especially close to her heart—she still feels her Amama’s presence every time she eats it. These dishes are more than food, they are memories, love, and the legacy of three generations of women connected through flavor and care."  Four Course Storytelling Menu, $85 per ticket:  Indian Chicken CutletSpiced, breaded, and fried patties made with shredded chicken, potatoes and aromatic spices. A popular snack or appetizer, it’s sometimes called "chicken tikki," with variations across different regions like Kerala.  Hara Bhara CutletA vegan version of the chicken cutlet, referring to its primary green ingredients: a spiced mixture of spinach, green peas, and potatoes.  Chicken PudinaChicken marinated in a fresh green paste of mint leaves and coriander mixed with yogurt, ginger, garlic, and spices.  Lemon RiceAlso known as Chitranna, a popular South Indian dish made from cooked rice mixed with spices and a tangy lemon juice-based dressing.  Sago/Sabudana Kheer Creamy pudding made with tapioca pearls, milk, and sugar.  Ticket price is inclusive of food and storytelling between courses. A cash bar will be available for beer, wine, and n/a beverages.  Important information about our menus:  BIPOC Foodways Alliance and Immigrant Kitchen has elected not to accommodate dietary restrictions - legacy food is an important cultural asset, and asking our co-hosts to change their dishes undermines the deep histories attached to them.This is a difficult decision, as we want as many people to participate in our programming as possible. However, the foods we are presenting are already accurate and appropriate as they exist, and preserving their integrity in conjunction with our co-hosts is an integral part of our mission.
