Memorials & Tributes

Memorial Benches at Avondale Scout Reservation
Pay what you can

Memorial Benches provide a lasting tribute at the Avondale Scout Reservation for Scouters and their families. Crafted from wood harvested and milled on-site, these benches bear the name of the honored individual. They are strategically placed throughout the Reservation, offering Scouts and Scouters a place to reflect, enjoy nature, and remember their loved ones.

Inspired by a generous gift from the Delos and Margaret Knight Charitable Trust in the Spring of 2024, the Knights were proud parents of three Eagle Scout sons and grandparents of three Eagle Scout grandsons.

A Memorial Bench costs $2,000.00, with proceeds benefiting the Council’s endowment fund. In addition to the bench, funds raised will be placed in the James E. West endowment fund in their name. The principal of this endowment will be held permanently, while the interest generated will support local Scouting long into the future. This is a meaningful way to leave a lasting legacy at Avondale.

The name inscribed on the Memorial Bench is limited to 28 characters, including spaces. Each Memorial Bench will be created and sealed before being placed at Camp.

James E. West Fellow
Pay what you can

A gift to a local council, designated by the donor to the council endowment fund, qualifies for membership as a James E. West fellow. The gift must be in addition to and not replace or diminish the donor’s annual Friends of Scouting support.

A minimum gift of $1000 in cash or marketable securities qualifies for the Bronze level membership. Donors may make cumulative gifts to reach Silver, Gold, and Diamond member levels. For example, 5 years of giving at the Bronze level would qualify for Silver level membership. Many individuals and corporations make these gifts either on behalf of someone else such as in honor of an Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver recipient, a retirement, a special accomplishment, or anniversary or in memory of a special individual.
