Seed is from a Chinese chestnut tree (called 65-11) planted by Jay Miller in Ohio in 1965. Mother tree has been a reliable, outstanding producer since it began fruiting. Nuts are medium sized but tasty and consistently healthy. Nuts are sweet and appear to dry quickly, good for flour. Tree has short stature and typical orchard-type growth. For the last decade or so it has been surrounded by grafted cultivars (good pollen cloud). Mother tree ripens early compared with other Chinese chestnuts, making it more suitable for northern growers in the midwest and northeast.

You will pick up the trees on our farm on Washington Island (1249 Aznoe Road). Please text Russell to coordinate pick up (616-481-6066) and please bring your own bucket or box.
