Pencil, Pulse, and Prajna. Creativity, Movement, and Zazen are all methods for studying the self. Dogen tells us to Study the Way is to Study the Self. When we are in the midst of creating or using our bodies, we come across obstacles that interrupt progression toward skill-mastery or self-mastery. This important moment opens a door for noticing how automatic behavior and negative thinking moves into the space and stops us from what we want. Together we will look at art and body exercises to see our habits more clearly and meet them without judgment. Even if you do not think you "have an art or body practice," you can use any creative moment or moment of physiological demand, physical skill, or mental stress to examine "how you really operate." When we see how we ARE without judgment, our "being" shifts. Mediation practice works in perfect tandem with this. This workshop will bring it all together. Doen Roshi and Ryuen Sensei join forces to bring a very different teaching. This workshop will be unlike anything we've done before. Further information will be provided upon registration. Zoom attendance is available.
