🎉 Join us for a very special Immigrant Kitchen event, where we will pair home cook Alyssa Saleem, born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan and pastor of Fairmount Avenue United Methodist Church in St. Paul; with with Michael Shaikh, human rights activist and author of The Last Sweet Bite, Stories and Recipes of Culinary Heritage Lost and Found, recently published by Penguin Random House.  🎉 Alyssa and Michael will collaborate on a street food menu from their shared Pakistani heritage, along with storytelling from their individual backgrounds and cultural legacies.  From Alyssa and Michael:  “A cuisine unto itself, Pakistan’s street food is not only beloved in every corner of the country but it also reflects many of the traditions and flavors of our subcontinental cousins. We chose street food because it carries stories of a unique culture. In Pakistan, street food is more than just a meal; it is an expression of community. From the bazaars of Peshawar to busy markets of Lahore to the beaches of Karachi, street food vendors are magnets, pulling Pakistanis from all walks of life to their carts and grills. Students stop for a quick snack after school, families share a plate together, and travelers find comfort in familiar tastes along the road. Street food tells the story of hospitality, of flavors passed down through generations, and of strangers becoming neighbors.
