In Motion is drummer Phil Haynes's new project: a book of standard tunes played without their themes, with the band improvising on the changes alone. After workshopping the book at The Tavern this fall, Haynes built the project around a quartet he calls "post-Konitz": Adam Siegel's alto saxophone teamed with Peyton Pleninger's tenor, over Radam Schwartz's organ, for a more vertical, harmonic exploration of the songs
