As a part of our Beethoven Festival, Boulder Symphony is proud to present a chamber concert featuring a piano trio comprised of faculty from the University of Colorado Boulder. Internationally-renowned musicians&nbsp;Andrea Segar,&nbsp;Meta Weiss, and&nbsp;David Korevaar&nbsp;join to chart a course through the great composer&rsquo;s musical journey from his middle period (the &ldquo;Heroic period&rdquo;) to his late period, ultimately culminating in his magnum opus, the Ninth Symphony. Beethoven&rsquo;s&nbsp;&ldquo;Archduke&rdquo; Trio, composed for his friend and patron Archduke Rudolph of Austria, stems from the end of his middle period and features a subtle balance between humor and drama. Here, Beethoven imbues the work with some of his most elegant melodies and an especially touching slow movement, which is quickly contrasted with an especially humorous last movement, culminating in an explosive finale. The&nbsp;&ldquo;Hammerklavier&rdquo; Sonata&nbsp;has garnered a reputation for its innovative and grandiose nature, and it&rsquo;s a reputation well-earned. While the work is also dedicated to Archduke Rudolph, its scope and musical language is that of a different scale. Beethoven&rsquo;s intense obsession with the fugue is present from the first movement, and it is accompanied by an increased study of dramatic contrast.
