Mallory & Irvine: Why We'll Never Know The Truth Since the discovery of George Mallory's remains at nearly 27,000 feet on Everest's north face in 1999, sleuths around the world have struggled to shed light on whether or not Mallory and Irvine stood on the summit in 1924. My expedition to locate Sandy Irvine in 2019, while failing to locate his body, led to a theory that goes against long-established beliefs about where Irvine was and how he got there. The discovery of Irvine's boot and foot in 2024 on the central Rongbuk Glacier proved that theory correct. In this presentation I will discuss 'what's new' about the efforts to solve the Mystery of Mallory and Irvine and why I believe we'll never know the truth of what happened to them on that fateful day in June of '24. Thom Pollard has spent more than three decades documenting the Himalayas. He has filmed four Everest expeditions, two on the north and two on the south, summited the mountain in 2016 (from the south), and was the high-altitude cameraman on the historic 1999 expedition that discovered the remains of George Mallory at nearly 27,000 feet, 75 years after his disappearance. Thom returned to the north side of Everest in 2019 to look for Mallory's partner, Sandy Irvine. His current film project will shine light on the growing garbage and human waste crisis on Mount Everest (www.everestexposed.com), with an expedition planned for the spring of 2027. As a public speaker, Pollard has shared his many adventures to audiences around the world and is host of the popular Everest Mystery channel on YouTube.
