My daughter, who likes fashion, named my cat Miuccia after the fashion designer Miuccia Prada. This photo came together by accident when Miuccia was sitting on a box in a windowsill that also had an orchid and some notebooks. 

“Pip” was adopted from HPC in 2017, where she was called “Bria.” She was a spicy cat that scared all the other cats in our house but has since mellowed into a very sweet girl, although the other cats still respect her boundaries. We named her “Pip” because that’s what the dots on dominoes are called, and she has two black spots on her back. We call her “Practically Perfect Pippy” because she’s so proper and petite.

“Jinx” was originally named “Handsome” when we adopted him from HPC in 2016. The adoption was an adventure because he hid when we came to pick him up. His shyness around strangers has never left him, but he came out of his shell with us and is a very affectionate and attention-seeking boy. He’s also very earnest and doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He’s the only cat in our household that gets along with all the other cats. Our common phrase is “Everybody loves Jinx."

Tanji is beautiful, deeply self-possessed, and fully aware of both facts. She carries herself like the apartment is hers, and I am simply lucky to live in it. This picture captures her usual expression: glamorous, mildly offended, and quietly judging everyone in the room. Beneath all that attitude, though, this diva is completely unforgettable.

Euchre and her sister Yahtzee were adopted from our local animal shelter. They are named for games because they are playful. Euchre is very friendly and outgoing.

Violet Rose is my mother’s cat. She is a quiet, shy cat but she is very sweet with people she knows. 

Solomon is our family’s hero, staying by my grandma’s side during the pandemic when she had little contact with others. 

Akula is a 9 year old female cat, who enjoys sleeping all day, meowing for attention, and sitting in the window. She is known for sitting in weird positions, and is also known by the nickname “Chonks.” 

Zavier is a 13 year old orange tabby cat, who was born and raised in Hyde Park, Chicago. He enjoys long walks outside and basking in the sun, while also being cuddly and loving when he is indoors. 

This is Parmesan! He is my adorable current foster bunny from Dolly’s Dream Home Rabbit Rescue! He is currently seeking his forever home and some more veggies to munch on.

Annie is a toothless senior gal who loves to cuddle, hang in her window hammock, and scream for her prescription food.

Bella is our elegant black-and-white poodle mix with a playful edge—and a serious talent for begging for treats. At 10, she still runs the house with style and sass.

Truman is a lovable goldendoodle rescue who loves people—especially if they come with attention and treats. Dogs? He prefers to be the only star of the show.

Roscoe is our charming 11-year-old rescue with the best head tilt—and a very memorable smile. Proof that personality (and a little mischief) only gets better with age.

Lennon, also known as “big boy,” is a true White Sox fan. He follows the team closely from his favorite spot stretched on the couch in front of the TV. In honor of his favorite team player, Greg Luzinski, he never misses a meal and is a commanding presence wherever he goes.

Devilish Divas! Cicely (pictured in the cape) and her bonded littermate Sabrina (sniffing curiously) are Hyde Park Cats alumni, now 5 years old. Once a year for Halloween, the girls are briefly dressed in costume and given plenty of their favorite treats as a bribe. While both cats are affectionate and friendly, Cicely is the more reserved and dainty of the two. 

The Catfish! Sabrina is ready for her OnlyCats debut! From her humble beginnings as the daughter of a streetcat to her current lavish lifestyle, Sabrina is prepared to charm her way into your affections with her friendly demeanor. Full of curiosity and mischief, Sabi is a quintessential cat, spending her days napping on soft furniture and chasing toys. 

Rory means "Red King" in Gaelic. Rory thinks he is a tiger, and he is not wrong! Just can't take the Tiger out of the cat!

Remy is a fluffy 3 year old chatterbox whose hobbies include chirping, monitoring local bird and squirrel activity, and playing with crinkly toys.

Jesse, my dear old boy, joined the family is 2006, when his mother brought her kittens to the basement of the Lab School building during a thunderstorm. Almost 20 years old and almost blind from cataracts, Jesse is still my sweet love.

Less of a "street cat" and more of a "castle cat," found roaming her clover-covered jurisdiction of Palamidi Fortress in Nafplio, Greece. 

This is Chichi, or Zhicheng Zhang, he is an almost-6-year-old orange cat from Beijing, China! Can you believe it! He moved to Hyde Park with mom and auntie for school in 2023, and he serves as THE emotional support animal and pageboy for mom and auntie. 

Minnie is a sweet and sassy 16 year old kitty who loves to sleep on her mom’s pillow, snack her siblings when they get too close, and is determined to go through all nine of her lives! Minnie has had her share of illnesses and ER visits, but refuses to slow down. Vote for Minnie (or just give her treats) today!

I adopted Barmina from Hyde Park Cats at the beginning of October 2022. (Her Hyde Park Cats name was Maya.) She loves laps, tummy rubs, and snuggling up next to me in bed. Sometimes when I'm working late on the computer she'll paw at my face to get me to stop. But she's also comfortable being a desk cat during the daytime, as this photo shows. 

I adopted Belhar from Hyde Park Cats at the end of July 2023. (His Hyde Park Cats name was Douglas.) He's the house goofball, climbing up to places no other cat of mine had gone, and jumping on the keyboard when I'm playing piano. He is also the most relaxed member of the household, sometimes sprawling on his back in a comfy spot, although he can also look more serious and sit in more traditional poses, as shown here.
