The Alaska Whitefish Trawlers Association (AWTA), founded in 1975 in Kodiak, AK, is a non-profit trade association representing harvesters who fish for various species. Primarily small, family-owned businesses with multi-generational involvement, AWTA members are dedicated to sustainable fishing practices, with most of their catch certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). AWTA actively participates in fisheries management to ensure healthy oceans.
Mission
Alaska Whitefish Trawlers Association represents independently-owned trawl harvesters, working to ensure that small, family-owned commercial fishing businesses have a future in Alaska. They target groundfish and make Kodiak the #3 commercial fishing port in the nation.
