The Department of Maine Veterans of Foreign Wars, founded in 1987, assists Maine's VFW posts in providing services to veterans and their families, helping them access benefits and medical services. They promote democracy and freedom, assisting around 2000 veterans yearly. They offer trained staff to assist veterans with VA benefits, support veterans at VA hospitals, conduct annual conventions, and organize essay contests for students.
