Friends of the Kankakee, est. 2001, supports the US Fish & Wildlife Service in preserving the biological and cultural diversity of the Kankakee. They acquire conservation land and promote community outreach. Their goal is to transfer natural areas to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the creation of the bi-state Grand Kankakee Marsh National Wildlife Refuge.
Mission
Friends of the Kankakee supports the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to preserve the biological and cultural diversity of the Kankakee River Basin through the establishment of the Kankakee National Wildlife Refuge and Conservation Area. They collaborate with public and private individuals and groups to promote their mission.
