About
The New Jersey Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC), founded in 2019, is a 17-member body appointed by the Governor. It maximizes opportunities for people with disabilities through planning and advocacy. SILC develops and monitors the State Plan for Independent Living, coordinating with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and other state agencies. A majority of the council are people with disabilities, representing various disability-related organizations and advocates.
