Newport Yacht Club, established in 1936 on Irondequoit Bay, promotes small boat sailing and racing. Originally located on Newport Island, it moved to its current location in 1943. The club hosts Snipe and Lightning fleets, and has expanded to include Laser and Optimist Dinghies, plus a Cruising fleet. It offers sailing on the Bay and Lake Ontario.
