The Springfield Thunderegg Rock Club, founded in the 1950s, sparks interest in gems and minerals. The club played a key role in the thunderegg becoming Oregon's state rock in 1965. They award scholarships to local earth science students and host an annual rock show.

The Springfield Thunderegg Rock Club strives to spark interest and encourage study of gems & minerals. They hold monthly meetings with a variety of topics and frequently invite outside speakers.
