About
Stonington Public Library, a relative newcomer among Maine libraries, began in 1955. It strives to inspire, enlighten, and enrich its community by providing access to books, information, and resources for work, recreation, and education. After relying on volunteer efforts, the library association formed in 1958, purchasing its current building in 1959 and paying off the mortgage in 1962. It provides programs and services to the community and greater peninsula year round.

Stonington Public Library strives to inspire, enlighten and enrich all members of its community by providing excellent services and facilities that connect them to books, information and ideas needed for work, recreation and education.
