The Johansen International Competition for Young String, est. 1997 and sponsored by the Friday Morning Music Club Foundation, supports young string players (ages 13-17). Held triennially in Washington, D.C., it awards $67,000 in prizes, performance opportunities, and scholarships to Brevard Summer Institute and Festival and Morningside Music Bridge, encouraging dedication to music. Winners also receive a 5 year FMMC membership.
Mission
The Johansen International Competition encourages young string players aged 13-17 by providing significant prize awards, supporting them at a crucial time in their musical development when they are considering their future.
