Working on Yupo paper, participants will experiment with transparency, texture, and flow using alcohol inks and tools that encourage play and creative risk-taking. These free weekly open studio sessions are part of the &ldquo;It&rsquo;s Here, Roanoke&rdquo; arts activation &mdash; a city-wide effort to connect people through creativity and celebrate art as a community-building force. What&rsquo;s Happening?Every Monday starting January 12 through May 4, come hang out at our open studio space to:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Make art with others &mdash; no experience needed</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Learn artistic techniques from community artists and volunteers</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Develop or join a krewe &mdash; arts-making groups that will march together in the Daisy Art Parade</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Collaborate on giant puppets, costumes, banners, and more in preparation for the parade on Saturday, May 9!</li></ul> A krewe is simply a group of friends, neighbors, colleagues, or fellow art lovers who want to make something joyful together and share it with the community. This series also supports It&rsquo;s Here, Roanoke, an initiative to strengthen the city&rsquo;s arts ecosystem and connect residents, artists, and organizations through collaborative cultural experiences.

Daisy Art Parade Open Studio Sessions

Come see what happens when clay travels through portals. Wonderland, a new exhibition from 12 Hollins artists, fills our side gallery with ceramic work that moves between myth, magic, and the natural world &mdash; fantastical creatures, color chemistry, and figurative forms that carry something ancient.&nbsp; Wonderland is our collection of works that honors myth, magic, and mystical objects as explored through one semester of working freely with clay. Through the lens of ultimately honoring in equal parts the natural world and the imagined, we have used the clay to travel through portals, bear witness to the chemistry of color, and greet several fantastical creatures along the way. We have also continually explored the female form as a site of wonder, and as a site of birth, rebirth, and strength. Our work explores texture, touch, medium, and manipulation through the techniques we&rsquo;veemployed - our processes embody both timeless fundamentals and ideas born through contemporary experimentation in the studio. Wonderland: A Hollins University Ceramics Exhibition (May Art by Night)

Join us for a fun evening at Art Project Roanoke!&nbsp; The artists of Studios @ Art Project Roanoke open their doors for an intimate open house reception &mdash; meet the makers, see work in progress, and experience the creative community behind our Campbell Avenue studio space. Downstairs, our workshop floor comes alive as Daisy Art Parade krewes roll in to work on their papier-m&acirc;ch&eacute; creations &mdash; and anyone who wants to get their hands messy and make something is welcome to join in.&nbsp; This is Art Project Roanoke at its best: a place where art is made, shared, and celebrated together. Daisy Art Parade Merch Shop

The Printmakers Collective is a new open studio program at Art Project Roanoke &mdash; a space for community-minded people to practice exuberance through art. There&#39;s no skill requirement or pressure to already know what you&#39;re doing. It&#39;s a collective, which means we&#39;re all in it together, learning as we go. We&#39;re starting with an information session and building from there: screen printing, linocut, our own collective logo, and whatever else we decide to explore as a group. When: Tuesday evenings &middot; Starting May 19&nbsp;Where: 101 Campbell Ave SW &middot; Downtown RoanokeCost: Free to attend &mdash; your time and attention are the real currency here. As the collective grows, we&#39;ll work toward partnerships with local organizations &mdash; making shirts and posters at cost, funded by the community we&#39;re building. Along the way, we&#39;ll hear from professional and retired printmakers who&#39;ll share their craft, their stories, and what keeps them coming back to the press.
