New items will be added regularly, leading up to the auction&#39;s close on June 26 This collection features historic artifacts from the personal collection of Apollo 9 astronaut Russell &quot;Rusty&quot; Schweickart, a pioneering space explorer, co-founder of the Association of Space Explorers, and one of the world&#39;s leading advocates for planetary defense. Through his work in space and on Earth, Rusty helped inspire a global understanding of our shared responsibility to protect our planet. These rare books, signed memorabilia, and space history artifacts reflect that remarkable legacy. Proceeds from this auction will support the Schweickart Prize, established by B612 Foundation in 2023 to advance the next generation of planetary defense leaders and innovators. Awarded annually on International Asteroid Day, the Schweickart Prize recognizes graduate students whose work advances our ability to detect, predict, communicate, and mitigate asteroid impact risk. The recipient receives a $10,000 award, international recognition, and a museum-quality trophy featuring an authenticated meteorite. By participating in this auction, you are helping ensure that the vision and commitment of Rusty Schweickart continue to inspire new ideas, new discoveries, and new leaders working to safeguard planet Earth for generations to come. This special hybrid auction opens online on June 11 and concludes at 9:00 PM PDT on Friday, June 26, during the Asteroid Day Starlight Supper at Lowell Observatory. Bidders from across the country are invited to participate, while attendees of the Starlight Supper can view the collection in person and take home their winning items that evening. Winning lots purchased by remote bidders will be shipped after the auction.
