You&#39;ll cry. You&#39;ll learn something new! Elliott is&nbsp;a former four-term mayor of Ellenville and previously served as New York State Deputy Comptroller. He began his Borscht Belt career mucking stalls at the Nevele Stables, which reportedly prepared him for a career in politics.

Join Catskills Borscht Belt Museum board member Barry Lewis for an intimate tour of the museum, including our new exhibition, Catskills Romance: Love and Desire in the Borscht Belt.Barry was editor of the Times Herald-Record, where for 20 years he wrote a weekly column about his life in the Catskills, with tales of his stints as a busboy, waiter and pool manager at the Shady Nook and Stevensville resorts. He chronicled local history on <a fr-original-style="" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20241225050153/https://www.facebook.com/ClassicCatskills/" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Classic&nbsp;Catskills</a>, and he is the author of From Brooklyn to Bucolic, a collection of his columns. Barry started his journalism career as a teenage columnist for Panorama Magazine distributed throughout the Borscht Belt. His father, Eddie Lewis, a longtime entertainer, was one of the last resort tummlers.
