EF5 & The Art of Grief

LXCL:EF5 (Erika's Father, Family &amp; Friends Fighting Fentanyl) provides a supportive community for those navigating grief through retreats, workshops, FLOAT support groups, comfort kits and direct financial assistance through Erika's Magic Money fund. We create spaces to connect individuals with their loved ones and foster healing through shared experiences and creative expression. We also are part of Save Lives Oregon, distributing life saving naloxone to help end the fentanyl epidemic.

Dear Friend, Every part of EF5 began with love&mdash;and with loss. In August of 2023, our family lost Erika Rose Glownia to fentanyl poisoning. Like so many families across the country, our lives were changed in an instant. The shock, the grief, the unanswered questions&mdash;it was overwhelming. What became clear very quickly was this: families affected by fentanyl loss are often left to carry everything alone. EF5 exists so they don&rsquo;t have to. Today, EF5 works to prevent fentanyl deaths and to walk alongside families through grief and healing&mdash;through harm reduction, direct family support, and our flagship program, tHE ART of Grief. We meet people where they are: in moments of crisis, in community spaces, in grief circles, workshops, and remembrance gatherings. But there is a growing challenge that is limiting how far we can reach. We are in need of a van. A reliable van would allow EF5 to:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;" type="disc"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Transport Naloxone (Narcan), harm reduction supplies, and comfort kits</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Carry art materials, instruments, and supplies for tHE ART of Grief gatherings</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Travel to underserved communities and partner locations</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Support families who cannot easily come to us</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Respond quickly when communities experience overdose loss</li></ul>Right now, much of this work depends on our personal vehicles. It is not sustainable&mdash;and it limits how many people we can serve. The EF5 logo&mdash;a tornado&mdash;represents what fentanyl does to families: sudden, devastating, and life-altering. But it also represents movement, response, and resilience. A van gives us the ability to move toward people in the storm, rather than asking them to find their way to us. Your donation today helps put real wheels under this mission. We plan on working to co-create a National Memorial for families to heal and remember and develop a scholarship fund for children who have lost a parent to fentanyl poisoning. Join us for a celebration of the release of Transient. Alex Bosh was on his way from Alaska to see Xavi Segarra in Eugene when he was poisoned by fentanyl in Seattle on August 4th, 2025. Xavi, who write the book&#39;s foreword, will be sharing stories of Alex, what it means to be a traveler, and the process of creating, editing &amp; making art for the book. Transient&nbsp;by Alex Bosh is a young man&rsquo;s efforts to work out, creatively, the experience of living far outside the mainstream. Some readers may recognize themselves in it - others may simply gain insights from it. &quot;Alex spent much of his life &#39;out there&#39; - on the margins, in the backcountry, in places where the systems most of us rely on fall away. He knew how thin the line is between comfort and survival, how quickly the familiar becomes strange. The worlds he imagines in these stories are not as distant as they may seem. They are built from the same landscapes he walked, the same questions he carried: what endures, what collapses, and what it means to remain human when everything else falls away. He saw clearly. Maybe more clearly than most. Perhaps you see it, too. So in the words of singer/songwriter Jesse Stewart: ride on, marauders; keep moving. Grab your dog, grab your backpack.
