Join us Friday, September 4th, from 5&ndash;8pm for a pop-up musical event featuring performances by local artists Melvin Gradiz, James Day Leavitt,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Leigh Kellis! <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.melvingradizband.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Melvin Gradiz</a> was born in Miami, Florida, and has been drawn to music for as long as he can remember. In recent years, he&rsquo;s fallen in love with songwriting and releasing music independently. He recently formed the Melvin Gradiz Band with drummer Gary Lowell and bassist Randy Runnels and is excited to see the music that emerges from there. <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.jamesdayleavitt.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">James Day Leavitt</a> is a writer, musician and occasional painter. He was born and raised in Maine. He spent most of his 20&#39;s in Oakland, California, where he played bass in Three Years Down and Witticus, two East Bay punk bands. He returned to Maine in 1999 and currently resides in Portland with his wife Katie along with their great dane, Luna and two cats, Poppy and Dash. <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.instagram.com/womenwhoneeddonuts/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Leigh Kellis</a> is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and creative entrepreneur based in Southern Maine. Best known as the founder of The Holy Donut, she has increasingly turned her creative energy toward music and the arts, writing and performing original songs while building community and supporting local artists. Since 2024, EMA has been diversifying the stories and voices represented in Maine&rsquo;s music industry, and training the next generation of music producers &amp; engineers, thanks to generous grassroots donors and support from the Onion Foundation and Maine Community Foundation.

Join us Friday, August 7th, from 5&ndash;8pm for a pop-up musical event featuring performances by emerging artists Jennifer Talon, Kai Luc, and Francis Costin! Jennifer Talon is a 16-year-old singer-songwriter based in Moultonborough, NH. Drawing on indie, pop, and alternative influences, she has developed a discerning ear for production, applying her skills on guitar, violin, and piano to compose original songs. After earning opportunities through open mics and songwriting competitions, she has been steadily building a following with captivating live performances across New England. Jennifer recently completed her debut single, Fairweather Friend, recorded at Monaco Studios with support from Equal Measure Arts, and is currently working on her debut EP. Kai Luc is a singer-songwriter and guitarist currently studying at Berklee College of Music. A graduate of Portland High School and PATHS, Kai&rsquo;s music blends thoughtful songwriting with expressive guitar work influenced by Midwest emo and contemporary R&amp;B. Before leaving for college in Boston, Kai recorded their debut EP at Monaco Studios and quickly became a familiar face on Southern Maine stages through EMA-supported performances at All Roads Music Festival, [the square], and as an opener for Kimya Dawson. Francis Costin is a Portland-based pianist, guitarist, songwriter, and music educator known for his thoughtful playing and wide-ranging musical curiosity. A graduate of Portland High School, Francis performs in a variety of contexts while sharing his love of music through private piano instruction. He is also the founder (and sole faculty member!) of the renowned &quot;Costin Academy of Music&quot; and a valued volunteer at [the square], where he regularly supports educational programming and community events. Raised in Camden, she began playing guitar at six years old and has been performing ever since. Drawing inspiration from artists like Joni Mitchell, The Chicks, and Indigo Girls, her music blends folk, indie-folk, and bluegrass with a focus on storytelling. In addition to her work as a performer and songwriter, Hazel is a documentary songwriter and serves as Program Director for Documentary Songwriters. She collaborates with community storytellers to create original songs based on lived experiences and has led songwriting programs in both community and carceral settings. Her documentary songwriting work includes creating one of the first documentary songs written for a documentary film through the High Mountain Institute and contributing to the #SongsofMeToo project. Hazel is currently preparing to release her debut EP. <a fr-original-style="" href="http://instagram.com/justmilkmusic" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Just Milk</a>&nbsp;is the electronic music project of Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist Tara Rook, weaving together ambient soundscapes, emotive electronics, and genre-blurring rhythms. Drawing from synth pop, trip-hop, dark disco, and house, her work moves fluidly between beat-driven releases and spacious, meditative compositions designed for deep listening. Rooted in themes of heartache, healing, and emotional presence, Just Milk&rsquo;s catalog spans ambient albums, house EPs, textured beats, and DJ mixes. Whether performing live with the SP-404SX or crafting thoughtfully curated DJ sets, Tara creates sonic environments that feel intimate, immersive, and human. Alongside her evolving sound, she is committed to collaboration and gender equity within electronic music, continuously exploring new forms of expression while contributing to inclusive, connected dance and listening spaces. <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.bowdoin.edu/news/2025/06/student-music-jamboree-attracts-dozens-of-players-from-bowdoin-bates-and-colby.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Laura Souza</a> is a Bowdoin College student, vocalist, and guitarist who performs across a range of styles, from jazz and choral music to indie rock and original songwriting. Alongside performing with campus ensembles and playing solo sets, they&rsquo;re passionate about building community through music, both as a performer and as Bowdoin&rsquo;s Community Music Outreach Coordinator. <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.equalmeasurearts.org" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Equal Measure Arts</a> is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to making professional studio recording &amp; audio engineering training more accessible for aspiring recording artists and producers &mdash; regardless of age, resources, or experience.
