Monoplay "MOTHER'S LULLABY" about Irpin

A monodrama "Marusya Churai" is an epic story of a personal fate set against a great era. It is the voice of a woman born in the whirl of Cossack Ukraine in the 17th century — during a time of liberation struggle, losses, oaths, and betrayals. Marusya appears not only as a legendary songwriter but as the spiritual nerve of the nation. Her life unfolds against the backdrop of historical upheavals — Cossack campaigns, the destruction of towns, moral choices that determined Ukraine’s fate. In her personal tragedy — the betrayal of her beloved, a trial, a death sentence — is reflected the tragedy of a people fighting for the right to dignity. Through the novel’s poetic world, Lina Kostenko’s verses reveal a sweeping panorama of the epoch: Poltava as a symbol of spiritual fortitude, the Cossack honor as a moral code, the song as a chronicle that requires no chronicling. "Marusya Churai" is a performance about a nation born through pain. About a song that is stronger than any verdict. About a woman whose voice becomes the voice of history. In times when Ukraine again fights for its freedom, the figure of Marusya sounds not as a legend of the past, but as a contemporary summons: to preserve dignity, not to betray the heart, not to lose the voice. For as long as the song resounds, the people live.

Join us for the solo performance “Marusya Churai” by Honored Artist of Ukraine Liudmyla Kolosovych 🎭 Моно-вистава «МАРУСЯ ЧУРАЙ» - це епічна історія особистої долі на тлі великої доби.

“MOTHER’S LULLABY” is an intimate documentary-theatrical performance about returning to Irpin — a Hero City liberated from Russian occupation, which has become both a symbol of destruction and of resilience. The space of ruined buildings and damaged homes emerges as a landscape of memory, where personal history intertwines with the history of an entire nation. At the heart of the performance lies the experience of returning home after de-occupation, reflecting on loss and preserving identity through personal talisman-objects: a mother’s headscarf as a symbol of family continuity, and a Frida Kahlo marionette created by Ukrainian puppet artist Yevhen Nevynskyi for a previous artistic project. After the artist’s death at the front, the puppet acquires new meaning — becoming a material testimony of presence, memory, and an unfinished dialogue between art and war. The performance explores motherhood in wartime: mothers living between fear and hope, memory and faith, loss and unconditional love. “MOTHER’S LULLABY” raises questions of personal and collective trauma, the responsibility of art during war, and the role of cultural memory in the process of societal recovery.

“CRY OF THE NATION” – is a name of a play presented by Ukrainian artIsts Liudmyla Kolosovych and Natalia Kaspshyshak. It is about preservation of the culture of Ukraine. Repressions for the Ukrainian identity and language, and for the love of the land are characteristics of not only present time. Clear cut Ukrainian position could easily take you to a prison during the Soviet occupation of Ukraine. A vivid example of resistance and courage is Vasyl Stus – a Ukrainian poet of the 60s, a translator, a writer, a thinker, a literary critic, an activist, a political prisoner of the Soviet Union, one of the most active members of the dissident movement. Stus was subjected to repressions by the Soviet dictatorship for his persuasion to preserve and develop the Ukrainian culture; his writings were forbidden and partially destroyed; and he himself was sentenced to lengthy imprisonment in Perm Region where he eventually died.
