Adot-a-fishing Hole
Adopt a favorite fishing spot and help keep Cordell Hull Lake healthy for everyone who loves it 🎣. Your support helps us care for shoreline access, clean up litter, and protect the lake’s fish and wildlife.Summery:The Adopt a Fishing Spot program is a stewardship initiative that aligns perfectly with the mission of the Friends of Cordell Hull Lake (FOCHL. This sponsorship-based program helps beautify our shoreline areas, encourages greater use of the lake and broader local outdoor recreation, highlights deserving local businesses and organizations, and promotes responsible stewardship of our shared natural resources. Adopted fishing spots are sponsored by businesses, nonprofits, civic groups, families, or individuals who commit to active involvement: they (and/or their customers/supporters) perform regular cleanups at the site throughout their sponsorship term. In place of costly and problematic on-site trash bins, each spot features a simple, educational sign with positive messaging and QR codes linking to inspiring videos and resources. The program is made possible through the partnership of the Friends of Cordell Hull Lake and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. All participants must complete the straightforward process to register as a Corps volunteer (via volunteer.gov or local project coordination). In addition, volunteers will complete a brief safe cleanup practices orientation—ideally by watching a short educational video (we can utilize an existing Corps resource if available, or create a simple one tailored to our lake environment). This ensures everyone cleans up safely and effectively. By putting real community members and faces behind the effort, the program fosters personal accountability, builds stronger connections to the lake, and creates meaningful visibility for sponsors—all while keeping Cordell Hull Lake clean and inviting for everyone. Sponsorship Parameters – Reasonable Yet Active We want participation to be meaningful but realistic for busy businesses, clubs, churches, scout troops, and individuals. Minimum Commitment • 4-month sponsorship term (renewable). • One documented cleanup per month (Core volunteer sheet submitted monthly- before and after pics are recommended). • Sponsor provides their own cleanup supplies (bags, gloves, etc.). • Maximum of one sponsor per fishing spot at a time. • At the end of the term the sponsor may renew or the spot rotates to the next applicant. Recognition • Sponsor name and logo on the physical sign. • Monthly social-media shout-outs by Friends of Cordell Hull Lake and the Corps. • Annual “Steward of the Year” recognition for sponsors with perfect attendance and highest public engagement.
