Come gather with us at Land In Black Hands (LIBH) for our annual Harvest Gathering—a day of food, stories, learning, and connection on the land. Alongside Mimi Lucero of Inside the Husk, we’ll explore the living relationships between soil, seeds, people, and place through hands-on soil training, a community talking circle with Chenae Bullock, and opportunities to learn and work together. We’ll share a meal, harvest from the land, and gather around the table for a food preparation workshop with Chef Yunique. A potluck dish is welcome, but not required. We’ll also celebrate what’s happening at LIBH, including our Purple Collard Project grow-out and seed stories, while deepening our relationship with the Hudson Valley Farm Hub and others helping to keep our region’s agricultural knowledge and seed traditions alive. Take home seeds as an invitation to continue the connection.Come celebrate what we’ve grown, what we’re learning, and what we’re planting for the future. Meet Our Facilitators Chenae Bullock is an enrolled citizen of the Shinnecock Nation the first contact tribe of Long Island and a living descendant of the Montauk people. She is an Indigenous leader, water protector, cultural preservationist, and founder & CEO of Moskehtu Consulting, an Indigenous-led sustainability and cultural strategy firm advancing regenerative leadership across business, government, and philanthropy.Deeply rooted in ancestral practice, Chenae has led the resurgence of traditional northeastern Algonquin canoe culture. Following in the footsteps of her whaling ancestors, she has organized and guided sacred paddles through historic waterways from Shinnecock to Mashantucket Pequot, across the Long Island Sound, and most notably from Boston to New York City reclaiming Indigenous presence along ancestral trade and migration routes. Through every role as executive, ceremonial leader, strategist, and advocate Chenae’s mission remains clear: to restore Indigenous visibility, embed cultural intelligence into institutional systems, and build a future where environmental stewardship, economic advancement, and ancestral knowledge move forward together. Mimi Lucero, a Kichwa woman with a background in science and bioculture, will facilitate a conversation alongside Lala about who has access and rights to grow, move, and share plants, and how we can do so while honoring our cultures and recognizing the ongoing work and presence of Indigenous peoples who have cultivated and called this land—Lenapehoking—home since long before Kingston. LIBH Land Base is not open to the public. The location is near Red Fox Ravine but not at Red Fox Ravine. The location will be emailed to you several days before the event. Land In Black Hands Harvest Gathering: Of Seeds and Soils

We're Taking It OutsideWe're moving this Comida y tierra conversation outdoors. Bring the kids, bring your curiosity, and join us under the tents for food, music, and conversations that heal. Here's to sunshine, shade, and seeing you there! Seeds and plants travel with the help of natural propagators, such as wind, water, animals, and people—that allow them to move from one place to another. But who decides which plants travel, and where they belong? Join us for a community dialogue exploring pathways through which vegetation spreads and takes root. Together, we'll examine the relationships between plants, culture, land, and food, and discuss how the movement of plants has shaped communities across generations. Can we continue to travel with the plants that are meaningful to us while also understanding the ecological risks and the beauty of these connections? This event features two facilitators with backgrounds in science and community engagement. Enjoy music, food, and meaningful cultural dialogue as we learn from one another and celebrate the connections between people, plants, and places. Community NoteThis gathering intentionally centers languages beyond English, including Indigenous languages and voices. We invite you to listen with curiosity rather than correction, and to make space for ways of knowing that may be different from your own. All levels of Spanish are welcome, and we warmly encourage you to register. We are committed to building programming that centers Spanish and Q'eqchi'—honoring the languages that live within our beloved communities. In the spirit of reciprocity and equity, tickets are free for non-English speakers. For non-Spanish speakers, there is a suggested donation of $30 to cover the meal and programming.

/// Seed keepers carry entire worlds within them: knowledge, traditions, stories, foods, and practices passed down from generation to generation. In collaboration with Hudson Valley Farm Hub, we want to bring together those who grow, save, share, and care for seeds, as well as those who have dreamed of saving seeds but don’t yet know how to begin. All experience levels are welcome. Together, we will listen to the stories of seed keepers in Kingston and the knowledge held within seeds. We will explore how this knowledge can help us build a more connected community and sow the seeds of a future for Kingston. The gathering will be held in Spanish, with interpretation into Q’eqchi’ and English. If you’ve ever dreamed of saving your own seeds but don’t know where to start, this space is for you, too. A Note to the CommunityThis gathering intentionally centers languages beyond English, including Indigenous languages and voices. We invite you to listen with curiosity rather than correct, and to make space for ways of knowing that may be different from your own. Our Facilitators:Mimi Lucero, a Kichwa biologist with a background in science and bioculture, will facilitate a conversation alongside K Greene, Director of Seeds and Engagement at Hudson Valley Farm Hub, and local seed keepers in Kingston, including Q’eqchi’ families and local restaurant owners. Together, we’ll explore who holds seeds, which seeds the community wants, and how we can support those who would like to take part in this work.As always, we honor and uplift the work of those carrying seeds in Lenapehoking—a place cared for long before Kingston existed.

Comida y Tierra: Estamos Buscando Guardianes de Semillas

This November, Kingston Land Trust will gather our community at Senate Garage for The Land Is Calling, our annual end-of-year celebration and fundraiser supporting KLT’s work to protect land, steward ecosystems, create access, and build community power. Join us for an evening of connection, celebration, and community—and help sustain the work that makes a more just and thriving future possible. Come ready to celebrate and dance a little, too!

The Land is Calling End of the Year Celebration

Join us this December for the kickoff of the Kingston Land Trust’s Winter Film Series with a special Kingston premiere of The Nature of Nature: Biodiversity of the Hudson Valley, a short documentary produced by Laura Heady from the Hudson River Estuary Program and directed by Laura deNey from Flicker Filmworks. This 30-minute film is an ode to the remarkable variety of life in the Hudson River estuary watershed—celebrating the living fabric of the region’s unique landscape. From high-elevation forests to the globally rare freshwater tidal marshes along the Hudson, the film captures the beautiful, the complex, the familiar, and the unknown, guided by the plants, animals, and people that call the Hudson Valley home. Following the screening, stay for a panel discussion featuring local voices in ecology, conservation, and community land stewardship. The panel discussion is moderated by Michael Drillinger, KLT Board Chair, and will include Producer Laura Heady, Kathryn Kassner of UU Catskills Climate Action Team, Roselyn Vargas from the Kingston Y Farm Project’s youth team and Julie Noble, Environmental Education and Sustainability Coordinator. The evening will continue with a community dialogue, where participants are invited to join small breakout groups to reflect, share, and explore how we relate to and care for the ecosystems that sustain us. Come be part of an evening of film, conversation, and connection—grounded in place and rooted in the biodiversity that surrounds us. In partnership with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Hudson River Estuary Program in partnership with Cornell University, UU Catskills Climate Action Team, Kingston YMCA Farm Project & Peace Education Centre of the Hudson Valley.
