Meals Matter started with two high schoolers who noticed something wrong in their own community, kids around them were going hungry, and no one seemed to be talking about it. A conversation at a local Kiwanis club opened their eyes to how widespread the problem really was, and it led to a food pantry partnership that taught them how this work actually gets done. Their very first food drive set out to collect 100 pounds of food and raise $100. They ended up with 1,700 pounds and $600 instead.Since then, Meals Matter has grown into 25+ chapters across 8 states and 2 countries, entirely run by students. No adults calling the shots, no corporate structure, just young people who saw a problem and decided to fix it themselves. Together, our chapters have collected over 170,000 pounds of food and raised $80,000 for communities across the country. Every dollar has gone straight back out to the people who needed it. Not one cent has ever funded us.
